Bliss

A back yard! Without forsaking the city! Could anything be better?

Yesterday was my first full day with the kids since moving to Brooklyn. As luck would have it, it was a beautiful global-warming kind of day -- 60 degrees in November, meaning they could play at a water table without risking hypothermia. (Good thing, too, since they eached soaked three separate outfits.) Future be damned ... yeah, they're inheriting a really fucked up planet, but in the moment, the combination of the new digs and the eerily warm day was bliss.

For 2 1/2 years, going out to play meant loading up the stroller with diapers, wipes, snacks, extra clothing, and toys; trundling everyone into the elevator, across the lobby, down the steps, and out into the Midtown maelstrom; maneuvering around the inevitable crowds of tourists lined up in front of the Carnegie Deli, then grumpily snaking through the the crowds of arriving or departing tourists in front of the Park Central hotel; then weaving around the gridlocky traffic that almost always blocked the crosswalks at 57th Street; and trudging several more blocks before finally reaching the park.

Yesterday, I just opened the back door. To quote Nini, quoting me, how cool is that?
